We were in the middle of our tech careers but hungered to do something impactful against plastic & climate change. So, we quit our careers and created a purpose driven premium beauty company with a bold mission: luxurious plastic-free beauty products that offer the finest haircare and beauty experiences without compromising on sustainability. We design in Stockholm and consciously craft our products in France using 100% organic scents from Grasse. 20% of our profits go to protecting the planet.

What is the genesis of your project ?

Svante Holm and Alban Mayne

Beauty Disrupted was born out of a dream of the French and Swedish co-founders Alban Mayne and Svante Holm to disrupt an industry that relies heavily on plastic. “We were both working in the tech industry when we heard the staggering statistic that some 80 billion plastic shampoo and conditioner bottles are trashed annually, said Svante. “Few are recycled and many end up in our oceans.”

The co-founders quit their careers and spent two years seeking out the perfect ingredients for each bar, exploring the French Alps with local botanists and learning from experts and artisans from around Europe. “We wanted to create something that was luxurious and indulgent but not at the expense of our planet,” said Alban. “Every bar we offer has to exceed the pleasure and performance of the most premium liquid alternative while also being free of plastic and harsh ingredients.”

And now, after two years of smelling, testing, breathing, and dreaming about haircare and beauty bars, the co-founders have launched an extensive range of consciously crafted bars that get top-ratings from consumers and beauty press alike.

What are your goals in terms of sustainable development?

Svante Holm and Alban Mayne

We are not in this to make something small. We are here to help change a gigantic beauty industry that is addicted to plastic and often also to harsh ingredients. We want to show that it is possible to make green vegan and cruelty free products that are also luxurious and absolutely wonderful to use. The more consumers who experience that, the stronger the pressure will be on traditional beauty brands to change their ways. And when that happens, the industry will finally move away from the 80 billion plastic shampoo and conditioner bottles that get trashed every year.

What is your major challenge in terms of improvement within a 2-year horizon?

Svante Holm and Alban Mayne

We have succeeded in creating a wide range of solid bars that are as good or better than the finest liquid haircare and beauty products. But they are sometimes not as easy to use as the plastic bottle alternatives. For example, if you leave a solid bar under running water in the shower, it melts away. The bottle on the other hand doesn’t mind the water at all. We are working hard on this and over the next year we will come out with unique solutions that will make it even easier for consumers to give up the bottle…

Your definition of “Sustainable Luxury“ ?

Svante Holm and Alban Mayne

To us, sustainable luxury is about respect and kindness. Respect for the farmers who provide our natural and vegan ingredients. Respect for the planet and its inhabitants. Respect for our partners and the amazing people in the South of France who help us craft our products. And for the consumers who buy our products. We want them to experience luxury that is not only wonderful to use, but also kind to their bodies and to our incredible planet.

What is the meaning of your name?

Svante Holm and Alban Mayne

Our name, Beauty Disrupted, says exactly what we are here to do: disrupt, or change, the beauty industry by providing luxurious haircare and beauty products that are not only amazing to use, but also kind to the planet. Because we know that there is a better and cleaner way to do beauty. One that doesn’t rely on plastics or harsh ingredients, but that goes all in on the most caring natural ingredients and Grasse’s finest organic scents.
