Marie Giffo & Marielle Ravily

Portrait

Great-granddaughter of Nantes perfumer Alexis Biette, Marie Giffo wanted to revive the perfumes of her grandfather. Lover of feminine elegance and French rigor which, she believes, resides in simplicity.

With her associate Marielle Ravily, they wanted to create a perfume that allows everyone to reconnect with their senses: touch, smell, sight in order to facilitate reconnection with oneself, natural, carnal, intimate, necessary, vital.

What is the genesis of your project ?

Marie Giffo

The genesis starts from a conviction that has always been anchored: beauty will save the world! Following crowdfunding, the objective of which was to solicit a nose for the re-writing of the historical perfumes of the family house, Marielle Ravily, a chemical engineer in perfumery, joined the development project.

Together and accompanied by Sarah Baron Abrioux, perfumer for the house, we carried out branding work to reconcile the values carried by Alexis Biette and our convictions. The identity of the new Maison AB 1882 and its commitments then emerged.

The first three solid, natural, alcohol-free and refillable perfumes certified Origine France Garantie thus perfectly meet this demanding and transparent work.

What is the meaning of your name?

Marie Giffo

AB 1882, these are the initials of my ancestor perfumer in Nantes Alexis Biette and the date of foundation of the first soap-perfumery. It is a tribute to the founder who already engraved his initials on his perfumer soaps.

What are your goals in terms of sustainable development?

Marie Giffo

Our ambitions are to further reduce our carbon impact. Our solid perfumes already make it possible to limit the cost of transport, the production of unnecessary packaging, and ethical sourcing.

For the second year, we are carrying out research in favor of the introduction of local plants in our fragrances in order to reduce transport, promote the circular economy, limit the production of waste and promote local know-how.

Your definition of “Sustainable Luxury“?

Marie Giffo

Sustainable luxury is first of all aesthetics, the highly desirable! Beauty will save the world.
Sustainable luxury is also eternal, that is to say that the object passes from generation to generation.
Sustainable luxury is also ethics, that is to say the moral conscience applied to all stages of production.
Finally, sustainable luxury is the truth, the ability to explain all the steps to the customer without blushing.

Why join 1.618 ?

Marie Giffo

Because 1.618 is first and foremost a community of brands committed to new luxury and there are very few of them today. Because 1.618 is the future.
